Joe Brown is Senior Vice President of Strategic Insights for NBC Sports Group, based in Stamford, CT. He is responsible for program and content research across NBCSG's portfolio including NBC Sports and Olympics, NBCSN, Golf Channel, and Regional Sports Networks, as well as digital metrics for NBCSports.com and all digital streaming. Joe previously served as VP Research for NBCSN, which was rebranded from Versus with the formation of NBC Sports Group. Prior to Versus, Joe held various research positions with CNBC, Bravo, and Fox Broadcasting. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BBA, and earned his MBA at Fordham University.

Professional Development: Alumni Panel on Professional Certifications

Becoming professionally certified is a great way to supplement an undergraduate or graduate degree. This workshop will cover a hot topic in the current IT Space: Agile Project Management and the Scrum/Scrum Master Certification. The similarities and differences between these project management styles will be discussed as well as how one can go about learning these methods and attaining a certification (ex. Study materials needed, time commitment, years/hours of industry experience, etc.). In this workshop, we want to introduce students to these topics as they are up and coming and educate them on the opportunity available in this space.

Sayf Sharif is the Director of Analytics at SEER Interactive, a digital marketing firm that specializes in working with emerging to Fortune 500 companies concerned that they are not maximizing the use of the Internet as a medium for building awareness and driving leads and sales. Sayf entered Analytics through the most common scholastic path: archaeology. After grad school and working as an archaeologist for several years, studying how ancient humans used tools, Sayf began studying how modern humans use tools instead. Prior to SEER, he led teams of analysts in LunaMetrics, a Google Analytics Certified Partner in Pittsburgh, to help the company grow into one of the top GACP’s in the country. As Vice President and Head of Platform Services, Steve Giuliano oversees all operational and support aspects of technology infrastructure and information security. Prior to joining Independence in 2014, Steve was Head of Global Technology Infrastructure and Managing Director at Blackrock. During his tenure, he was responsible for the internal technology platform and infrastructure operating BlackRock’s Aladdin platform, which managed over (USD) 10tn in assets. He also oversaw the integration of BlackRock’s 2006 acquisition of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and the 2009 acquisition of the iShares ETF platform from Barclay’s. Steve earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Drexel University.

Nagesh Kapalavayi is a software professional and a leader in Information Technology. He is currently leading the DevOps Transformation at Qurate Retail Group as Director of Technology Platforms. At Qurate, he has held different roles leading Project Management, Quality Assurance (QA), and Release Engineering. Prior to Qurate, he worked at Walmart Labs for 11 years as a Developer and grew up to a Manager of Engineering. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Master’s degree in Computer Science. He gets really motivated and excited to solve various any engineering problems that have customer impact. Outside of work, he loves to be outdoors, hiking, 5K walks, tennis, and ping-pong.

Mayank is an Architect Manager at Vanguard responsible for Application Security definition and implementation. Mayank also manages an Innovation & Research team that focuses on emerging security technologies and a DevSecOps team to integrate security in the application build pipelines. Mayank has over 20 years of experience in IT and Security. His areas of interest are Authentication, Authorization, Single-Sign-On, Cloud Security, Risk Based Security and Multi-factor Authentication. Mayank has a MS in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University, MBA Finance from St. Joseph’s University and is CISSP certified. Outside of work, Mayank likes to volunteer, run, read and travel.
